About the Owner and Publisher
Shane Harris

Shane Harris is a dynamic communications leader, entrepreneur, and media visionary who has become one of the nation’s rising figures in modern journalism and public relations. As Publisher of the San Diego Monitor News & Business Journal and Founder & CEO of S Harris Communications, Harris is redefining the power of media, messaging, and community engagement across the West Coast.

Harris’s rise in communications did not follow a conventional path. He began his career as a social advocate and public voice for equity and civil rights, earning a reputation for his ability to mobilize communities and command public attention through authentic, impactful storytelling. That passion for shaping narratives evolved into a larger mission — to create platforms that tell stories often ignored by mainstream media while empowering organizations and leaders to communicate with clarity, strategy, and conviction.

Out of that mission, Harris founded S Harris Communications, a full-service public relations and strategic communications agency that has quickly become one of California’s most respected firms. The agency specializes in public affairs, media relations, branding, and crisis communication — with a focus on amplifying mission-driven organizations, business leaders, and public figures making a social impact.

Under Harris’s leadership, S Harris Communications has earned a reputation for innovation, cultural fluency, and results. From managing high-profile campaigns and shaping policy communications to positioning clients for national visibility, the firm is known for its ability to merge heart, strategy, and storytelling. Its client portfolio spans government, corporate, and nonprofit sectors, and its influence has grown across the West Coast, making it a go-to agency for leaders who want to move messages and change minds.

In 2025, Harris made a major leap into media ownership with his acquisition of the San Diego Monitor Newspaper — one of the oldest Black-owned publications in Southern California. Founded in 1986 by the late Willie L. Morrow, a pioneering entrepreneur and inventor, and his daughter Cheryl Morrow, the Monitor has long been a cornerstone of San Diego’s Black community. The Morrow family’s decision to entrust Harris with the paper’s future marked a symbolic and strategic passing of the torch to a new generation of leadership.

Now reimagined as the San Diego Monitor News & Business Journal, Harris’s vision for the publication is bold and forward-thinking — blending its legacy of community journalism with a modern emphasis on digital storytelling, business innovation, and civic engagement. The paper now stands at the intersection of culture, commerce, and community — reaching audiences locally and nationally through both print and multimedia platforms.

Today, Shane Harris stands as one of the nation’s emerging media moguls — a bridge between advocacy and enterprise, journalism and justice. His work through S Harris Communications and the San Diego Monitor News & Business Journal reflects a larger vision: to build a communications ecosystem that informs, empowers, and uplifts communities while shaping public conversation across industries and borders.

As Harris often says, “Media isn’t just about information — it’s about transformation.” And with every headline, campaign, and story he champions, he continues to transform how the West Coast — and the nation — sees itself.
