Radio host Charlamagne tha God is calling on Democratic leaders to bring an end to the ongoing government shutdown, saying the standoff has gone on long enough and is hurting ordinary Americans.
Speaking on his nationally syndicated program, Charlamagne said that while Democrats had made their case, the continued impasse is causing unnecessary strain on families, federal workers, and communities that rely on government services.
“Democrats, you fought. It seems like you lost the fight,” he said on air. “Now it’s time to think about the people who are actually being affected and find a way to reopen the government.”
The radio personality pointed to delays in benefit payments, disruptions to food assistance programs, and financial pressures on government employees as signs that the shutdown’s impact is spreading far beyond Washington. However many don't agree with that notion including former Vice President Kamala Harris who said “The Republicans control the House. They control the Senate. They control the White House. They are in charge, and they are responsible for the shutdown.”
Speaker Johnson is firmly aligned with the Republican view that the shutdown is a consequence of Democratic opposition to funding bills, placing blame on Democrats rather than his own conference. He has publicly stated that the House has already passed a continuing resolution and is now waiting for the Senate and Democrats to act.
Charlamagne’s comments reflect growing frustration nationwide as the political stalemate continues, with both major parties trading blame but offering few solutions. He urged leaders on all sides to prioritize compromise and restore stability for the public.
“People need relief more than they need political posturing,” Charlamagne added.
